Ricardo Iniesta has won the Award 2012-2013 for best director for CELESTINA, the Tragicomedy. This award was presented during the night of 28 January at the gala Scenarios Awards 2012-2013 in Sevilla, held at the “Sala Cero”, thus closing the eighth edition of feSt .
This is the fourth award for the Show already awarded for best Lighting in Andalusian Award – Alejandro Conesa – and for best Actress – Carmen Gallardo – for her performance in Scenarios Seville Awards and the prestigious awards granted by the City Festival Palencia, which in previous years has rewarded Nuria Espert, Concha Velasco, Vicky Peña Blanca Portillo and among other great actresses.
Carmen – protagonist of the play, and Ricardo are cofounders of Atalaya Theater that just turned 30 years that has earned thirty-two awards, including the National Award in 2008.
CELESTINA, the Tragicomedy celebrated its hundred functions precisely in the TNT Centre. In less than two years Celestina has covered more than half of the Spanish provinces and three Latin American countries. Coming soon it will be in Lugo and Carrión de los Condes and next season it will be in Madrid, in programming by the National Classical Theatre Company at the Teatro Pavón.
For everyone who has seen CELESTINA, the Tragicomedy, the outstanding performance of Carmen Gallardo playing the role of Celestina, stands out.
Carmen was awarded the 2012 Best Actress Award at the Seville Stage Awards for her performance. Also awarded were the show’s mise-en-scene, the choral work of the actors – who came out to greet the audience four times a day to rapturous applause – and the play’s magnificent adaptation by Ricardo Iniesta.
The play has currently appeared in festivals in Argentina, Chile and Paraguay, as well as in twelve autonomous communities.
Last summer it was performed at the Classic Festivals, including at Almagro, where the reviews were particularly complimentary, specifically in El Crisol, La Tribuna de Ciudad Real and Lanza digital. The show later travelled to Argentina, Chile and Paraguay, which became the 34th country that Atalaya visited in its three decades of being.
In the months of March and April, whilst completing a tour of Spanish cities, the show will run in different cities around Galicia, Valencia and Catalonia.
